Air Selangor’s acting CEO Abas Abdullah said the increase was due to the water service provider’s various operational revenues.
He stated that Air Selangor will maintain its long-term investments in water supply management for its 9.3 million users in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya.
He emphasised that appropriate and holistic tariff adjustments can ensure continuous improvement in service quality.
“Air Selangor recorded capital expenditure (capex) of RM0.56 billion in 2023, compared to RM2.68 billion in 2022, of which the majority was spent on the Stage 1 Desalinated Water Supply Scheme project in 2022 (RM1.97 billion).
“After adjusting for 2023, there was an increase of 18.8% in capex compared to RM467.99 million in 2022 (excluding Rasau),” he said during a press conference held in conjunction with the publication of Air Selangor’s 2023 Sustainability Report.
Abas said until the end of last year, Air Selangor had issued six sustainability sukuk, amounting to RM3.13 billion since the first issuance on Oct 29, 2021.
He said proceeds from the sustainability sukuk were used to implement projects related to water supply, sustainable water management, and renewable energy initiatives.
“This includes the development of new water treatment facilities, maintenance of existing facilities, pipe replacement programmes, and the Renewable Energy for Water (Renew) project,” he added.
He also said that the 2023 Sustainability Report outlines Air Selangor’s initiatives and achievements for last year and its commitment to strengthening water security through sustainability practices and operational efficiency.
