The partnership enables TM to access Maxis’ 4G multi-operator core network (MOCN) and domestic roaming (DR) services for 4G and 2G networks.
A MOCN allows multiple core networks to utilise the same radio access network (RAN) infrastructure through a sharing mechanism.
By riding on Maxis’ RAN infrastructure, TM will be able to expand its 4G coverage across the country and increase Unifi Mobile’s population coverage to more than 95%.
Maxis will provide TM with access to approximately 6,800 sites for 4G MOCN and DR services, along with 10,000 sites for 2G DR.
This collaboration will greatly benefit subscribers in both rural and urban areas across the country.
Maxis CEO Goh Seow Eng expressed his excitement about the partnership, considering it a significant milestone that showcases the group’s expertise and track record in delivering high-quality mobile networks.
“Industry collaboration is the right way forward as it will ultimately benefit consumers with wider coverage through better cost efficiency and more efficient use of our resources,” he said.
Meanwhile, TM group CEO Imri Mokhtar described the partnership as an important step for the industry to move towards infrastructure sharing.
“Our partnership will elevate TM’s 4G mobile proposition to deliver exceptional customer experience for home, SME, and enterprise customers.
“It will complement our 5G offering, and pave the way for greater innovation and collaboration, to deliver solutions and services for all Malaysians,” he said.
