PETALING JAYA:
Malaysian social enterprise Ripple Community has secured S$20,000 (RM65,270) to fund its growth as one of six winners at Pitching for Change, the final event at Singapore International Foundation’s (SIF) Young Social Entrepreneurs Global 2022 (YSE) programme.

Headed by Kee Joey, Ripple Community seeks to provide affordable and accessible healthcare to individuals with mental health and special needs. The social enterprise also seeks to raise greater awareness on such issues.

The YSE Global programme, nurtures young and innovative changemakers to launch or grow their social enterprises in Singapore and beyond.

The 2022 edition attracted a pool of 46 teams, comprising 93 youths representing 11 nationalities. Ripple Community was one of 15 teams drawn from the pool for the Pitching for Change event.

Kee expressed her appreciation at having a strong community to lean on following her time on the YSE Global 2022 programme.

“It is encouraging to be part of a network of like-minded friends on whom we can count on for advice and support.”

YSE Global currently has an alumni network of more than 1,400 changemakers representing 674 social enterprises.

Leading up to the Pitching for Change event, the changemakers had taken part in a series of virtual activities to strengthen their entrepreneurial capabilities. This included working with mentors from McKinsey & Company, Temasek and Bain & Company among others.

Kee also said she intends to apply the knowledge gained from the programme as she looks to expand her enterprise.

“We look forward to applying what we have learned from the programme as we continue to provide comprehensive and affordable behavioural healthcare to individuals with mental health and special needs, while raising awareness of such health issues,” she added.

In addition to its in-person and online services, Ripple Community is presently developing a mobile app that provides its clients with a holistic support system of services.

SIF special adviser for programmes Rajan Raju said it is pleased to support these young changemakers on their social entrepreneurial journey, as they continue to innovate and bring about positive social change within their communities.

The six winners were chosen based on the impact and scalability of their business ideas, as well as the commitment level of team members. They are Anahat For Change Foundation (India), Kura Kura (Singapore), Mengayu (Indonesia), Ripple Community (Malaysia), Symbionic Tech (India), and The Green (Laos and South Korea).
