KUALA LUMPUR:
Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and Gamuda Land, the property development arm of Gamuda Bhd, have teamed up to build two electron stations for electric vehicle (EV) charging at the latter’s property projects in Selangor.

The two companies today inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop the electron stations at Gamuda Cove in the southern part of the Klang Valley and Gamuda Gardens in the north.

The charging stations will serve communities in the two areas as well as visitors to the water theme park at Gamuda Cove.

The stations, slated to begin service by 2025, are in support of the two companies’ effort to support their respective sustainability vision.

“The future electron stations will be powered by rooftop solar panels that will help offset demand from the grid and support a greener environment,” the companies said in a joint statement.

These charging stations will be compatible with all vehicle-makes ranging from hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully EVs and include both AC and DC fast chargers.

TNB chief strategy and ventures officer Megat Jalaluddin Hassan said the MoU would pave the way for the utility company and Gamuda Land to collaborate towards increasing the usage of EVs in Malaysia and achieve the nation’s net zero emissions aspiration by 2050.

The stations will enable both companies to enhance their ongoing efforts to achieve their environmental, social and governance (ESG) targets while ensuring continued business growth, the statement added.

Gamuda Land COO Chu Wai Lune said both companies will also be working on the exploration of other sustainable energy initiatives under TNB’s offering at Gamuda Land’s townships.

“The electron stations would complement our carbon reduction efforts such as having dedicated tree-lined pathways for cycling and walking and having e-trams in our townships as an alternative mode of transportation for our community,” Chu added.
