Boom time for job seekers as job opportunities rise post-pandemic

Engineering jobs are most in demand at 35.8%.

Four broad industries have recovered to pre-pandemic levels or even higher, evident by the number of job opportunities posted.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Jobs are returning to the market, as seen by recovering unemployment rates and increased job ad postings, according to Jobstreet.

The online employment portal’s report, ‘The Job Outlook Report 2022’ outlined signs of recovery, with some industries reaching pre-pandemic levels namely semi-conductor and wafer fabrication, electrical and electronics (E&E), computer and IT (software), and transportation and logistics.

“The study details the supply and demand of jobs in Malaysia to give employers a clear view for future hiring plans,” said JobStreet operations director Ashwin Jeyapalasingam, adding that the report looks to help employers better allocate hiring resources.

Ashwin associates the strong recovery within the four industries with their respective digital transformation initiatives brought upon by the pandemic and shortages in the automotive industry.

Around 70% of job ads for the semiconductor and wafer fabrication industry were for engineering and manufacturing specialisations, of which 55% were from Penang.

Engineering-related posts contributed the most to industry job ads at 35.8%, with Penang accounting for 50% of job ads, followed by Selangor at 23%.
