LILLE:
A migrant was found dead near the French coastal city of Calais today, after possibly trying to board a lorry bound for Britain, local authorities said.

His body was discovered at around 5.30am in the Transmarck industrial and logistics zone in the town of Marck, the prefecture said.

The man “likely” fell from a freight truck he was attempting to board, but an investigation would determine the exact circumstances, it said.

Migrants hoping to reach England often gather around the area, hoping to hitch a ride in a lorry trailer.

However, enhanced security measures around the Port of Calais and the Channel tunnel have led many migrants to instead attempt the journey across the Channel by sea, often on makeshift boats, a much costlier option.

In mid-May, an Eritrean migrant died in Marck after being hit by a freight truck he was trying to board.

In early February, another Eritrean migrant died after being struck by a freight truck on the A16 motorway.

Since the beginning of the year, 17 people have died attempting to reach England by sea, according to the French interior ministry.
