RABAT: Four Moroccan truckers are missing in an area between Burkina Faso and Niger where jihadists operate, a diplomatic source told AFP today.
Contact with the four, who were aboard three vehicles, “was lost between Dori in Burkina Faso and Tera in Niger” yesterday, the source at Rabat’s embassy in Burkina Faso said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The truckers had taken a “very high-risk” route between the two countries “where terrorist cells and armed groups” operate, the source said.
The frontier region between Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso has long been a hideout for insurgents linked to Islamic State and Al-Qaeda.
