PHNOM PENH:
The national police of Cambodia have set up a special hotline for the public to report cases of alleged illegal detention in the country.

Complainants can call Hotline 117, which is available in Vietnamese, English, and in Chinese dialects, to report relevant cases as part of the efforts to combat all forms of human trafficking and illegal detention, the Vietnam news agency (VNA) reported.

Hotline 117 is located at the command centre of the General Commission of the National Police which will respond immediately to reports of illegal detention and torture, and to anyone seeking assistance from the national police, it added.

Calls to the hotline are free of charge, and can still be made even if the caller’s credit balance on their mobile phones is zero.

As of Aug 20, Cambodian authorities have detected 87 cases of human trafficking, rescued 865 foreign victims, and arrested more than 60 suspects.

Last week, authorities cracked down on seven cases, rescued 25 foreign victims, and arrested 23 foreign suspects.
