The daily, known for its independent news reporting, will go fully online.
In its farewell edition today, the daily published a special editorial on its front page titled “A New Beginning at 48”.
It said the daily embraced the winds of change to move beyond print into the digital realm.
“Despite all these media and communication tech advancements, quality content is never out of date, so our focus is to ensure our news and special reports are accurate, accountable and creative to further enhance user experience.
“These are among the priorities that we will strive for in this new journey,” it said.
The Nation is part of the Nation Multimedia Group (NMG), a public-listed company which was taken over by new management last year.
In May this year, NMG chief executive officer Somchai Meesen said the decision to stop its print edition by the management was aimed at halting The Nation’s financial losses, in addition to expanding its market.
It said the daily had suffered losses of 30 million baht (RM4 million) a year on average over the past five years.
Following The Nation’s move to cease its print edition, Bangkok Post, which established in 1946, will be the only English daily in Thailand.
