NEW DELHI:
India’s junior Railway Minister Rajen Gohain has been booked on charges of raping a woman in the northeastern state of Assam, Xinhua reported, quoting police.

According to cops, a complaint was filed against the minister by the 24-year-old married woman on Aug 2, following which a case has been registered under the Indian Penal Code.

“Though the woman has sent us a letter saying she does not want to go ahead with the case, we are taking all actions as per law,” senior police official Shankar Barata told media on Friday.

Local media reports said the minister had allegedly raped the woman on the pretext of giving her a job in the state-owned Indian Railways.

The country’s and the state’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has not reacted to the development yet against Gohain, who is a long-time parliamentarian from Assam’s Nagaon constituency.

However, the state’s main opposition Congress party has demanded for the minister’s resignation.
