China names reform-minded Yi Gang to lead central bank

Yi Gang is the only nominee for the governor post ahead of a vote by the National People's Congress later Monday.

BEIJING:
US-educated Yi Gang, a reform-minded deputy governor of the People’s Bank of China, was nominated on Monday to take over the reins of the central bank.

Yi, who taught at Indiana University before returning to China to climb economic policymaking circles, was the only nominee for the governor post ahead of a vote by the National People’s Congress later Monday.
