
Pattani Military Task Force commander Maj Gen Chatuporn Kalampastu said the incident occurred at about 7.30pm local time due to a misunderstanding among approximately 10 soldiers on duty.
“The military will take full responsibility for the accidental shooting. We will bring justice to the parties involved,” he said here.
Chatuporn also visited the injured victims at a hospital nearby.
It was learnt that there were six passengers in the ill-fated car bound for Kampung Kerasak here from the Yala province.
Mayo district police chief Col Sompraj Kannakanont said one of the victims, identified as Che Yarra Awae, 57, was seriously injured after a bullet pierced through her chest, near the heart.
She is now receiving treatment at the Pattani Hospital, he added.
