PETALING JAYA:
Barely a month old, Faith Sixto Simpal has been diagnosed with generalised muscle weakness, a condition that results in her not having the strength to breathe.

The infant is presently in an intensive care unit and relies on a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine to stay alive.

Unable to cope with the mounting costs, her parents, Crueldad and Lyriza Sixto Simpal, are turning to the public in the hope of raising RM60,000.

To do this, the couple have reached out to Persatuan Kebajikan Amal Da Ai Malaysia, a non-governmental organisation that helps the disabled and special-needs individuals through crowdfunding and other means.

Crueldad, 45, works at a printing factory and is the sole breadwinner of the family. Lyriza, meanwhile, has not been able to secure a job. Both are originally from the Philippines.

Owing to her unstable condition, doctors need to keep Faith under continuous observation. It is, therefore, unknown when she will be discharged from the hospital.

Her parents are now burdened with accumulating medical and hospital expenses, on top of struggling to purchase basic items such as diapers and milk formula.

According to the family’s case worker at Da Ai, Jessica Tan, the amount raised will be used to pay for Fath’s daily necessities, as well as medical and hospitalisation costs.

The funds will also be utilised to purchase a CPAP and suction machine, the latter to remove secretions from the nose and mouth. Both equipment are necessary for the baby once she is discharged from the hospital.

“We earnestly request the help of the public to help baby Faith survive this crisis,” Tan told FMT. “Do spread the word so more people can lend their support.”
