Not every dog has a restaurant named after them – Bacon is one of the lucky few.
The miniature poodle is the furkid of Timothy Sebastian and Pearl Dawson, who own Hungry Bacon in Damansara Uptown – an establishment that serves a wide range of delicious porky goodness.
Speaking with FMT, Dawson revealed the inspiration behind the name of their restaurant: it’s because their beloved pooch is always hungry!
And as for why they named him Bacon in the first place? “Well, we really love bacon!” the 39-year-old replied with a laugh.
She can still fondly recall the day the little one came into their lives: they were at a pet shop and all the dogs were barking – except for one puppy who slept through the noise.
“I told my husband I wanted him because the other dogs looked like they were going to be a handful,” Dawson said fondly.
They bought the two-month-old puppy and named him on the spot. However, the couple had a surprise in store because the initially quiet tyke soon revealed his colourful personality!
“As soon as we reached home, he started jumping and running around, within five minutes. It was as though he already owned the place. He was not the dog we saw at the pet shop!”
Today, Bacon, who turned five in December, is clearly the apple of his humans’ eye. Despite his cheeky streak, he has proven to be a good protector – at least, to a degree.
“Once, there was a sound coming out of our kitchen faucet and water was dripping. Bacon sensed something was wrong and stood outside our room crying. He wanted to alert us,” Dawson recalled.
“I was such a proud daddy that day!” Sebastian, 40, added with a laugh.
Indeed, Bacon is very protective towards his humans, who often pretend to fight just to see Bacon coming to defend the one being “attacked”. What a brave and loyal dog!
When it comes to food, the larger-than-life pooch particularly loves eggs, and looks forward to enjoying it every night with vegetables such as broccoli and carrots.
You might be wondering: “What about bacon?” Well, Sebastian and Dawson revealed Bacon does enjoy the occasional doggie bacon treat!
The cheeky canine also loves hanging around the dinner table when his humans are having a meal. In fact, he is a pup with a purpose.
“Anything that falls off is his,” Sebastian explained. “He’s always on standby! Hence the name ‘Hungry Bacon’ – see the connection?”
He also shared an interesting story about the time Bacon consumed some beer. This happened when Sebastian, who enjoys a drink while watching football, accidentally spilt half a can onto the floor.
Before he could clean it up, Bacon came rushing over. No prizes for guessing what happened next!
“He licked everything up within seconds! Thankfully, he was okay after that,” Sebastian chuckled.
Bacon has clearly brought joy into the lives of his humans, and Sebastian looks forward to getting home as early as possible each day so they can spend time with him.
“He enjoys having us home,” Dawson agreed. “For us, he’s not just a dog. We treat him as part of the family and have so much love for him.”
