PETALING JAYA:
On Feb 18, FMT published an appeal for funds by Premila Kumari PKV Pillai and her son, Anoop Raj so he could undergo a life-saving kidney transplant.

As of Mar 20, a total of RM112,000 has been raised, according to Premila.

“I would like to thank FMT for helping me to raise these funds upon hearing of my plight and making the public aware of it,” the 64-year-old mother, who is blind, told FMT.

She also expressed her deep gratitude to all FMT’s readers who contributed so selflessly towards the cause.

“I want to thank them for their generous hearts, and it’s something that can never be forgotten,” she shared, adding that they are still hopeful they will be able to raise the approximately RM200,000 needed for the urgent kidney transplant and postoperative hospital costs.

Anoop, a former human resource manager, has been diagnosed with stage-four chronic kidney disease and is currently undergoing treatment at Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre in Kochi, India.

In a conversation with FMT from India over the weekend, Anoop, 41, shared, “I have been asked to move forward with the process of the transplant after 30 days,” he said, referring to the recovery period he has to undergo after contracting Covid-19 on Feb 24. He only tested negative on March 10.

“The doctors are currently monitoring my blood readings and other vital organs. In the meantime, willing donors have been coming to the hospital, and they are in the midst of identifying a healthy one,” he explained.

“I would like to thank everyone who has opened up their hearts to assist with this cause. My promise to everyone is that once I get well, I will pay it forward to other kidney patients and assist them in any way that I can,” he shared.

“There are many kidney patients who do not know how to take care of themselves once they contract chronic kidney disease. My intention is to come back [to Malaysia], give talks in dialysis centres, and motivate these kidney patients.”

He further expressed his gratitude in the short video clip below:

Those who wish to help Premila and Anoop can send a WhatsApp message to FMT’s Helpline at 019-3899839. Please do not call.
