The ground couldn’t be paved due to financial constraints, which led to muddy adventures whenever it rained and made it very difficult for the staff to keep the shelter clean. It took many years and support from the public for PAWS to find solid footing with a cement floor.
What started off as a simple refuge for stray and unwanted animals eventually became a full-fledged shelter for 500 furry residents.
PAWS implemented a policy ensuring full vaccination, deworming and neutering before any animal was put up for adoption, so potential adopters did not have to go through the process on their own.
More importantly, this lowered the risk of disease and eradicated unnecessary breeding, a major contributing factor to the stray crisis.

After more than three decades of sheltering and rehoming thousands of strays, PAWS has had to relocate.
The rapid development of its surrounding neighbourhood had boxed in the shelter, with highways, the LRT and several condominiums posing a hazard to both volunteers and animals alike.
PAWS was given support by the Selangor state government through a nearby plot of land that is not only safer but is almost twice the size as the previous lot. This new site has been gazetted for PAWS’s conservation efforts.
The shelter has launched a fundraiser to raise RM3.5 million for its proposed new shelter, envisioning a multi-storey, eco-friendly haven capable of accommodating more animals sustainably.

Like everyone else, PAWS has been hit hard by the pandemic. Its staff have had to build small temporary structures at their new location to house their helpless four-legged friends.
As Malaysians celebrate 64 years as a nation, PAWS is appealing for funds to realise this new sanctuary. A donation of RM100 entitles contributors to bragging rights of owning 1 sq ft, or 0.1 sq m, of the new PAWS.
You will also receive a certificate to hang on your wall, and GPS coordinates exclusive to your piece of land so you can safely visit your plot virtually.

Sadly, animals are unable to raise a white flag, but they, too, require food, shelter, medications and more. If you are able to help, do consider making a donation to this worthy cause and help PAWS and its tailed inhabitants have a happy Merdeka Day.
Donations, which are tax deductible, can be made directly to PAWS Animal Welfare Society, UOB account number 232 300 2195.
