With shelters in need of financial help, one local brand has stepped up with its 'Purchase for a Purpose' programme.

PETALING JAYA:
As the country continues to be battered by the pandemic, many lives are profoundly impacted – both human and animal.

Limits on movement have resulted in fewer volunteers at shelters, while adopters are not able to visit to spend time with their potential new furry friends.

Many Malaysians are struggling with joblessness and having to prioritise their spending elsewhere during this time. This has led to a reduction in financial contributions for many shelters, whose coffers are dwindling in the face of continued costs to maintain the upkeep of the shelter and the animals’ wellbeing.

The Society For the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Selangor, for example, has seen their donations decrease by at least 50%.

And due to a lack of resources, it is barely able to support their current four-legged residents, let alone take in more.

Luxuriate and donate

Thankfully, some have made it part of their mission to help these shelters in need. Among them is Balmedy, a homegrown health and beauty enterprise, which has collaborated with the SPCA to launch the “Purchase with a Purpose” programme.

Balmedy focuses on skincare products with no synthetics, all created in its kitchen.

Customers who purchase its Anti-Cellulite Anti-Age Coffee Face & Body Scrub or its Smooth & Soothe Floral Face & Body Scrub can not only pamper themselves or provide a loved one with a thoughtful gift, but also donate to help the animals.

A portion of proceeds from the sales will go towards the SPCA’s Pet Care Education Programme, which aims to educate the public on responsible pet care and how to handle animals correctly.

Monies will also be channelled to its Medical Fund, which pays for animals that require treatment after being rescued.

Indoor effects

According to Balmedy, being stuck indoors has led to many people neglecting their skin. “A lack of sun and bad air circulation in air-conditioned and closed environments can result in conditions such as dull skin, acne or eczema,” the brand says.

Its all-natural products can help soothe the skin and contribute towards a sense of calm that many are longing for during this time.

“With every purchase, we can help bring back the light to animals in shelters, our skin, and even the economy by supporting small local brands,” Balmedy adds.

The initiative will run until the end of the year. So why not pick up a face and body scrub today, and help some furry friends while you’re at it?

Balmedy’s products can be purchased via its Shopee page or website. Also don’t forget to visit SPCA Selangor to learn more about their rescue initiatives and animals available for adoption.
