Saint Abb’s Head Circular Walk is an enjoyable six kilometre trail near Eyemouth, Scotland that offers sweeping views of lush Scottish countryside.

The walk leads one along a spectacular stretch of Berwickshire coastline and it is a fairly easy hike with a few ups and downs.

However, the sheer cliff edges in certain sections are a little dangerous, hence, children and pets need to be guided accordingly.

With perfect weather, this area offers spectacular views. (Northumberland Traveller pic)

The Saint Abb Head National Nature Reserve is also famous for its seabirds, wildflowers, butterflies and amazing scenery.

Screeching seabird colonies have also done their part in staining the dramatic cliff sides with their guano deposits. Of course, that’s part of a picturesque trail anyway.

What’s more, guillemots, kittiwakes, razorbills, fulmars, shags, herring gulls and puffins are among the types of sea birds spotted by birders here.

The lighthouse on Saint Abb’s Head was completed in 1862 and flashes every 10 seconds to prevent shipwrecks such as the ‘Martello’, which sank near Carr’s Rock in 1857.

When the lighthouse was automated, the Lighthouse Keepers’ Cottages were also sold off and are now available as holiday rentals if you fancy a break with a wonderful cliff top view.

After the lighthouse, the trail descends to Pettico Wick, a scenic bay with tilted, layered rocks of interest to geology enthusiasts. The dramatic terrain here is indeed, gorgeous on the eye.
