PETALING JAYA:
In the ongoing effort to help those who are struggling due to MCO 3.0, the Selangor and Federal Territory Eurasian Association (Saftea) launched its first food bank in Section 51 today.

Saftea president Sheila De Costa said the project is aimed at supporting members of the Eurasian community who are facing extreme financial difficulty and no longer have the means to feed either themselves or their families.

“We recognise that we have an important role to play in providing a solution to food deprivation among our people,” she said, adding that Saftea is seeking help from the general public to keep the food bank running as it is currently self-funded by members of the association.

“Moving forward we will be approaching sponsors for lunch vouchers for families, and will consider other options as well.”

The food bank is located at Memories Entertainment Warehouse on Jalan Penchala and is the second initiative by Saftea to assist the community. Previously, the association extended cash handouts to needy Eurasians in the Klang Valley.

Francis Danker, CEO of Memories Entertainment said, “Many families are struggling, monetarily and psychologically, due to the pandemic.

“As part of our CSR effort, we are offering our warehouse to Saftea to utilise for food storage and as a distribution depot. Every little act of kindness goes a long way to help my fellow Eurasian brothers and sisters in need during this difficult time”.

Monetary contributions can be made directly to the Selangor and Federal Territory Eurasian Association, Public Bank 3077422836, while donations of food items can be made directly to Saftea’s food bank.
