The past few months have been hard on everybody around the world due to the ongoing pandemic, but it was especially harder for Kate, who had to say goodbye to her beloved pet Peppa.

After a long but happy life of five years, the green bean- and music-loving guinea pig passed away peacefully on Jan 18, 2021.

“She loved people, especially when they stroked her head,” recalls Kate.

“With one black paw and one white paw, Peppa was so beautifully fluffy and just the best pet I ever had.”

Although her fluffy body can no longer be seen moving around the house and her squeaks no longer heard, Kate knows that somewhere up above, Peppa’s still grooving and dancing to her favourite song, “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire.

Besides having exquisite music taste, this little fluff ball had tastebuds that could even compete with Gordon Ramsay’s.

“It had to be organic food or hay. If you offered her pellets, she would refuse to eat them and look at you judgementally as if saying ‘So this is what you think I am worth’,” laughs Kate.

“We usually go food shopping on Sundays, and that was when Peppa would squeak really loudly, asking for vegetables,” says Kate, who adds the Peppa would go crazy whenever green beans were brought home.

When it comes to celebrations, Christmas was not an ordinary occasion for Peppa.

Apart from getting a special treat of Brussels sprout, she had her fair share of excitement while unwrapping Christmas presents.

“We got her a little bed and she even pulled off the wrapping paper a little,” recalls Kate, her eyes shining.

Apart from being known for her excellent taste in music and food, Peppa was also infamous for her cheeky antics.

“She was super mischievous! When she peed outside her house and on the floor, we would ask her about it and she always pretended like it wasn’t her!”

Kate then tells FMT about a time when Peppa got herself in a pickle.

“She climbed into one of my boot slippers and she wouldn’t come out at all! Our entire family had to come up with a full-blown rescue mission to pull her out!” laughs Kate.

Luckily, Operation-Pull-Peppa-Out was a success and the naughty guinea pig continued to scramble around the house as if nothing happened.

According to Kate, Peppa would also sleep for ages in her off-the-ground hammock.

“When anybody heard a loud thud in the house, it meant that Peppa had hopped off her hammock, signalling that it was time for food,” says Kate.

When Peppa wasn’t stuck in boots or making a mess out of her food, however, she was often found resting near Kate.

Kate says that her furry ears were something that she “could count on whenever she needed company”.

“The best times were when she would just sit next to me as I talked.

“It was strange because I felt like she really was listening, although she would stretch and fall asleep on my lap sometimes, ” smiles Kate.

Kate says she misses Peppa with all her heart, and that it was painful to think about how she was no longer physically present in her home.

But despite all that, she and her family believe that the one-of-a-kind guinea pig will continue to live on in their hearts.

Rest in peace and keep on grooving, Peppa!
