This sleepy yet serene town is not often visited by tourists, but is well worth a stop.

Kalpa is a small Himalayan paradise located a stone’s throw away from Reckong Peo in Himachal Pradesh.

Often missed by most tourists, Kalpa is a small village in Kinnaur district but it is well connected by road.

If you are looking for an escape from the usual touristy towns, then this quaint, small village with organic farms, apple orchards and a gorgeous view of the Kinnaur Kailash mountain is the perfect place.

To get here, you can opt to take a bus or car to reach Kalpa from Shimla. Government buses leave daily from Shimla to Kalpa, so that can be your budget option.

If you want comfort, then you can hire a chauffeur-driven car instead. Another alternative is to rent a car from Chandigarh and drive yourself.

Where to stay

There are plenty of homestay options here. (Travel Like We Do pic)

Kalpa has a few hotels and many homestay options, such as the Fort-View Homestay and The Village View Homestay.

Both were very nice and cosy experiences with wonderful views, so do choose whichever suits you.

Where to eat

There are no good restaurants, although you can try dining in at Echor. There are two or three restaurants here that are, frankly, quite expensive yet not up to the mark.

That being said, your best bet will be to eat at your homestay or hotel restaurant.

Things to do

Two nights would be enough to take in the glory of Kalpa. (Travel Like We Do pic)

You can explore all the nooks and corners of this small town within two whole days as Kalpa is a small village with few things to do.

However, don’t let that stop you from enjoying the atmosphere and the mood.

Here are some places you can visit:

Chandalika Temple

Chandalika Devi temple is done in beautiful Himachali architecture and offers a gorgeous view of Kinnau Kailash at sunrise.

Kalpa Monastery

One must visit this peaceful Buddhist monastery at Kalpa. The chants in the evenings and mornings add to the ambiance of this town.

Suicide Point

Village tour

Kalpa is a self-sustaining village with a lot of organic farming activity going on. You can take a stroll to the farm or visit the old heritage houses in and around the village.
