Syadhisy and his wife Brenda are the proud parents of Lulu, a beautiful Poodle they adopted after returning to Malaysia from abroad.
While living in Canada, the couple used to go for long walks along Prince’s Crossing Park in Calgary. Here, they noticed that almost everyone was walking their dogs.
“We always wanted a dog, and seeing those furry beings during our walks further strengthened our resolve to get one once we moved back here,” he says.
On their return, they searched high and low for a pup that would fit both their home and personalities.
“We finally came across Lulu in Mudah.com, of all places!”
According to Syadhisy, Lulu’s previous owners were moving and wanted to give up their dogs. It was a rather sad situation, but once the couple met Lulu, Syadhisy said it was love and lick at first sight.
“I remember sitting down on the floor when she approached me and started licking me vigorously! I say vigorously because she started attacking me with love and tongue starting with my cheeks, mouth, nose and a deep dive into my nostrils!”
The couple instantly bonded with the cute, loving and smart Lulu, and decided to adopt her.
Lulu was understandably rather timid during the first few days in her new home. The couple recalled that she did not dare to walk far from the living room and that any new room in the house would make her take a nervous step back.
Syadhisy also remembers how he once saw Lulu inching forward on her hind legs so far behind that she tipped herself forward!
But Lulu eventually settled down and got so comfortable in her new surroundings that she even slept and snored loudly through nasty thunderstorms. These days, even the roaring vacuum cleaner is her friend.
After a few months of living together, Syadhishy noticed that Lulu had a distinct love for chew toys. She had her favourites – a pink rope-knot, Otter, Mr Moose and the nylabone.
“She would anxiously sniff around, looking for a particular item and when she finds it, she won’t let it go without negotiation,” said Syadhisy.
“And, if you don’t catch her in time, she’ll silently slink into a corner and chew on it.”
Syadhisy says Lulu is a creature of habit. Her day must start with potty time in the morning and a 15-minute game of fetch with Brenda before she wanders around the house, sniffing for new areas to explore and new toys to chew on.
Despite all the nice soft toys, balls and chew toys she has to play with, Syadhishy says Lulu’s real obsession is underwear, of all things!
While Syadhisy says he’s grateful Lulu never chews on shoes, cables or books, he recalls how he was rather torn between amusement and bewilderment when he once caught her red-handed with her choice of “toy”.
“On an absolutely mundane Monday morning, I found a trail of clothing from the laundry bag to Lulu’s favourite spot. And there she was, sitting majestically on her bed with a piece of underwear between her teeth!”
Syadhisy remembers laughing so loud, Brenda rushed out to see what the commotion was. Lulu however, was unphased by all the laughing and exclamations and continued chewing on her “toy”.
“A few days later, my wife walked in on Lulu chewing on my boxers. This time though, there was no trail of clothes,” said Syadhisy, adding that Lulu is obviously getting smarter by the day and better at hiding signs of her mischief.
The couple says they have tried everything to get her to break her latest bad habit, but nothing so far has worked.
“We don’t know how she gets the underwear, and she’s been careful not to leave any evidence lying around,” laughs a somewhat befuddled Syadhisy.
Regardless of this peculiar habit of Lulu’s, Syadhisy said they still absolutely adore her.
With her penchant for troublemaking, her silly adventures with their underwear and shameless licking, Lulu has found a firm and permanent spot in Syadhisy and Brenda’s hearts.
