MIAMI: Sebastian Korda’s giant-killing run at the Miami Open came to an abrupt halt on Tuesday as the American 32nd seed was bundled out by lowly ranked Spanish qualifier Martin Landaluce.
Korda, who produced a stunning third round upset of world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday, exited the last 16 after falling in three sets to Landaluce, ranked 151st in the world, 3-6, 7-6 (8/6), 6-4.
The win marked another impressive victory for the 20-year-old Landaluce, who eliminated Russian 14th seed Karen Khachanov in the previous round.
Facing last year’s quarter-finalist, Landaluce saved a match point late in the second set, forcing Korda into a third set during which the American — hindered by an adductor injury — received on-court treatment twice.
Landaluce will face either American sixth seed Taylor Fritz or Czech 21st seed Jiri Lehecka for a place in the semifinals.
