However, Milan said in a statement said that tests carried out this morning excluded a serious injury similar to the one which kept him out of action for months between 2022 and 2023.

Milan added that defender Strahinja Pavlovic also escaped a serious injury to his left thigh, add that “both players will be assessed on a day-by-day basis”.

The 30-year-old has suffered a string of injuries since signing for Milan in 2021, with a previous calf muscle tear making him miss Les Bleus’ run to the final in Qatar nearly three years ago.
