SEOUL:
Former Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Gus Poyet has been appointed manager of Jeonbuk Motors, the South Korean club said on Tuesday.

The 57-year-old Uruguayan replaces Kim Do-heon at the former Asian champions, who have struggled in recent seasons.

Jeonbuk have won nine South Korean league titles, with their most recent coming in 2021, and they were Asian Champions League winners in 2006 and 2016.

However, they only avoided relegation from the Korean top flight in a playoff earlier this month.

The role is ex-Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Poyet’s first since leaving the Greece national team after his two-year contract expired in March.

He also previously coached Sunderland, AEK Athens, Real Betis, Shanghai Shenhua and Bordeaux.
