Penang steal thunder in judo at Sukma 2024, win 3 out of 6 gold medals

The islanders' hattrick of gold medals was secured by Lim Xin Jie, Allysa Jia Yi Gan, and Amir Daniel.

Penang judokas stole the show by winning three out of the six gold medals at stake in the finals of the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma) held at the Mukah Campus UiTM Balau Hall in Mukah, near here, today.

Lim Xin Jie got the ball rolling for the islanders when she overcame Kedah’s M Menaga Dewi in the women’s 48kg final.

Johor’s Ainaa Najihah and Terengganu’s Ummi Rasyidah shared the bronze.

Allysa Jia Yi Gan then doubled Penang’s gold medal tally for the day when she defeated another Kedah opponent, Nurul Aishah Abdullah, in the women’s 52kg via Ippon.

Terengganu’s Fatin Alia Mohd Johan and Johor’s Ashrien Natasya Nadia settled for bronze.

Penang completed their hattrick of gold medals today when Amir Daniel outfought Malacca’s Pang Zi Heng to win the men’s 81kg final via Ippon.

Ahnaf Mohammad of the Federal Territories (FT) and Arif Hakim of Johor shared the bronze.

Terengganu, meanwhile took home two gold medals in the women’s category through Nor Atikah Nabila (44kg) and Diana Renee (57kg).

FT picked up the sixth gold on offer through Jairaj Singh, who defeated Penang’s Ivan Jun Hee Ong in the men’s above 90kg category via Ippon.
