Taekwondo exponents Norumar, Putri Nurrafqistina add 2 more gold medals for Perlis

The wins take the state's gold medal haul in the sport to five at Sukma 2024.

KUCHING:
Norumar @ Kumar Sukalinggam continued Perlis’ prowess in women’s taekwondo by clinching the state’s fifth gold medal in the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma) on Monday.

In the action at the Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya, the 21-year-old Norumar, competing in the below 53kg defeated Maple Law Tsi Eun from Sarawak 2-0 in the final.

She becomes the fourth Perlis women to win gold medals from taekwondo in Sarawak.

Earlier, another Perlis taekwondo exponent Putri Nurrafqistina Damia produced an energetic performance to contribute a fourth gold medal in the sport for the Perlis contingent participating in the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma), here today.

Putri Nurrafqistina, competing in the below 46kg category, defeated Selangor’s Aryssa Ashura Adnan Ashraff, 2-0 to become the third women from Perlis to win a gold medal in Sarawak.

Wong Zin had contributed the first and second gold medals for Perlis by winning the women’s individual poomsae event and mixed event while the third came from Nadia Aina Syazwani through the below 67kg category.

In the men’s below 58kg category, Sebastian Tan Chung Wan from Kelantan ruled supreme to clinch the gold after edging Darschan S Nathan from Perlis, 2-1 in the final.

Johor swept the men’s 54kg gold through P Moganarrajan, who edged his opponent from Negeri Sembilan Ahmad Muhaimin 2-1 in the final.
