Bolt set the record long before he became a sprinting sensation and the world’s fastest man.
Media reports said his time of 47.33 seconds was beaten by his compatriot, Nickecoy Bramwell, with a time of 47.26s at the Carifta Games in Grenada, West Indies, on Friday. Bramwell was significantly clear of second place Kemron Mathlyn (47.96s) and Eagan Neely (48.16s).
Bramwell said: “It’s a wonderful feeling to break the record. Since last summer, I have been eyeing the record, so it’s a great feeling I could come out here and get it. I just took my mind off it and focused on the record.”
As for Bolt, he holds the world record for the fastest 100m in history, clocking in at 9.58 seconds in 2009. He ended up winning eight Olympic gold medals and 11 World Championship titles and remains a world-record holder in the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay. Bolt retired in 2017.
