Nurdin bags contingent’s last medal at Asian Para Games

HANGZHOU:
The national contingent ended the last day of the 2022 Asian Para Games with a bronze medal through Nurdin Ibrahim in the men’s 1500m T20 (physical impairment) today.

The 26-year-old athlete who is the country’s last participant of APG brought cheers to the national camp when he finished third in 4 minutes 19.95 seconds in the event held at Huanglong Sports Centre Stadium and thus contributed the 39th medal for the contingent.

“Alhamdulillah for the medal in my maiden APG appearance here and I did not expect to win a medal.

“I thanked my parents and coaches who gave me their support all this while,” he told Bernama.

The gold and silver of the event respectively went to Kenta Okawachi (4 minutes 5.12 seconds) and Daisuke Nakagawa (4 minutes 6.35 seconds) of Japan .

Nurdin’s bronze saw the contingent close the competition in Hangzhou with seven gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals.

The 2022 APG closing ceremony will be held tonight.
