PJ City right-back Rajes killed in motorcycle crash

The 37-year-old former Selangor and Kedah player was believed to have lost control of his motorcycle before crashing onto a road shoulder and into a tree.

Rajes Perumal had played football for a number of teams before joining PJ City in 2018.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Petaling Jaya City (PJ City) FC right-back Rajes Perumal, 37, was killed in a motorcycle crash last night.

Gombak acting district police chief Noor Ariffin Nasir said the accident occurred when Rajes, who was travelling from Jalan Sri Batu Caves towards Batu Muda at about 10.30pm, was believed to have lost control of his motorcycle before crashing onto the left shoulder of the road and hitting a tree.

He suffered serious head injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.

His body was taken to the Selayang Hospital forensics department for a post-mortem.

PJ City coach P Maniam said Rajes’ body will be brought back to his home at 5pm today.

He told Bernama the funeral will be held at about 1pm tomorrow but the location has not been decided yet.

Maniam described the passing of Rajes, a father of three, as a huge loss to PJ City because he was one of the more experienced players in the squad.

“He was disciplined and committed as a player, and was a role model for the team,” he said.

Rajes joined PJ City in 2018. Before that, he had played for PKNS FC (2011-2013) followed by Selangor (2014) and Kedah (2015), before returning to PKNS FC in 2016.
