Perak ink youth development deal with Wolfsburg

Perak FC have set their sights on developing young talent in a collaboration with top Bundesliga club Vfl Wolfsburg.

Perak chairman Azim Zabidi said the deal with the Germans was sealed at a memorandum of understanding signing today.

He said the collaboration until December 2023 will see the German club help develop Perak, including sending their coaches and players here during pre-season, in addition to supporting their training camps.

“Wolfsburg are a successful global brand and there are many things we can learn from this collaboration, especially as it involves grassroots development that we emphasise on … that’s the main thing.

“We also want to take inspiration from the various fields involving technical and governance issues, including in the field of business as well as sharing of information involving sponsorships,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wolfsburg senior vice-president of sales Andreas Kruse said the partnership will be good for the future of both clubs as well as for the development of football.

“We chose Perak because they are as ambitious as we are, with a lot of things in common, particularly in developing football from the grassroots level,” he said, adding that Perak is the first Southeast Asian club to have forged a partnership with them.

Wolfsburg, currently in 13th in the highly-competitive German top flight, have won the Bundesliga once in the 2008-2009 season and finished as runners-up In 2014-2015.
