The 26-year-old is scheduled to play Misha Zilberman in the final eight tomorrow after the Israeli shuttler showed his opponent Kalle Koljonen of Finland the exit, winning their match 21-12, 19-21, 22-20.
Meanwhile, mixed pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie also advanced to the quarterfinals after easily defeating Misha and Svetlana Zilberman 21-5, 21-8.
Soon Huat-Shevon will take on Singaporeans Terry Hee Yong Kai-Tan Wei Han who beat home pair Kim Young Hyuk-Kim Hye Jeong 22-20, 23-21.
However, luck was not with the tournament’s eighth-seeded mixed pair Chan Peng Soon-Toh Ee Wei as they lost 21-18, 21-14 to Zheng Si Wei-Zhang Shu Xian from China.
Also stranded in the second round was former women’s singles world junior champion Goh Jin Wei, who lost 22-20, 7-21, 12-21 to China’s world No 17 Wang Zhi Yi.
In men’s doubles, Goh V Shem-Low Juan Shen lost to Hiroki Okamura-Masayuki Onodera of Japan 21-16, 14-21, 22-24 while Tan Kian Meng-Tan Wee Kiong were shown the exit by Koreans Choi Solgyu-Kim Wonho 17-21, 21-9, 13-21.
