KUALA LUMPUR: National badminton singles champion Lee Zii Jia failed to advance to the final of the 2022 German Open when he unexpectedly lost to world No 20 Kunlavut Vitidsarn from Thailand in today’s semifinals.
World No 7 Zii Jia failed to shine against the lower-ranked Thai, losing 21-13, 21-12 at Westenergie Sporthalle in Muelheim.
Kunvalut advances to the final after downing 23-year-old Zii Jia in 40 minutes and is expected to meet the winner of the other semifinal between top seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark and the tournament surprise, Indian Lakshya Sen.
