
Nazifuddin won with 74 votes compared to his sole challenger, Azim, who garnered only 27 votes.
Two other candidates, Malaysian Snooker and Billiards Federation president Melvin Chia and Malaysian Sailing Association secretary Megat Fairuz Khairuddin, had both sent in withdrawal notices earlier.
The battle for five vice-president posts saw Shahrul Zaman Yahya get the highest support with 81 votes, followed by D Mumtaz Jaffar (79 votes), Chong Kim Fatt (79 ), Nur Azmi Ahmad (76 ) and Megat Zulkarnain Omardin (68).
The post of assistant secretary-general (male) was won by Chan Foong Keong, who obtained 66 votes compared to Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Zin (35 votes).
Mohd Nasir Ali secured 65 votes to defeat Amarjit Singh Gill (36 votes) for the assistant treasurer post.
Today’s voting completed the list of office-bearers of OCM for the 2021-2025 term.
“I think we should pat ourselves on the back because this is very historical. Not only is it the first online OCM annual general meeting, the election process was also done online.
“What has been done by OCM in conducting this AGM and voting can be used as a template for other national sports associations,” said OCM president Mohamad Norza Zakaria.
On Aug 27, Norza was returned unopposed as president for the 2021-2025 term after nominations closed on Aug 25.
Football Association of Malaysia president Hamidin Mohd Amin, a newcomer, won the deputy president’s seat unopposed.
Norza, who is Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president, also won the OCM presidency unopposed in 2018, replacing Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar, who chose not to seek re-election after holding the post since 1998.
OCM Independent Election Panel head (returning officer) Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos confirmed that two other incumbents were also returned unopposed — Moira Tan (assistant secretary-general-female) and Ahmad Feisal Ahmad Tajuddin (treasurer).
“As I mentioned earlier, time is moving very quickly and we have major games taking place in 2022 up until 2024.
“The new executive board will meet within the next two weeks and thereafter the executive council.
“I can assure you, together with my newly elected colleagues, that we will work hand-in-hand with the sports bodies to help you deliver our goals for the next cycle,” Norza added.
He also thanked five sports bodies, namely BAM, Malaysian Basketball Association, Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association, the Squash Racquet Association of Malaysia and Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Confederation, for nominating him to lead the OCM once again.
