Aussie Greco sets world record to win first Paralympic gold

The cyclist emerged victorious in the women's C1-3 3,000m individual pursuit.

TOKYO:
Australian cyclist Paige Greco became the first Tokyo 2020 Paralympic gold medallist after winning the women’s track cycling C1-3 3,000m individual pursuit event today, Xinhua reported.

Greco covered the 3,000m distance in 3:50.815s in the final at the Izu Velodrome, refreshing the previous C3 class world record of 3:52.283s she created just hours ago during qualifying.

China’s Wang Xiaomei claimed the silver in 3:54.975s, while German cyclist Denise Schindler bagged the bronze in 3:55.120s.
