PETALING JAYA:
Having delivered the goods in London in 2012 and Rio five years ago, there are few medal-providing sports for Malaysia better than diving.

Pandelela Rinong and Leong Mun Yee are one of the nation’s best bets for podium success in Tokyo – the duo finished as silver medallists at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea just 32.52 points behind winners Lu Wei and Zhang Jiaqi of China.

And for two-time Olympic medallist Pandelela and five-time Olympian Mun Yee, today could finally see them break the nation’s duck for a medal in Japan as they feature in the women’s 10m platform synchro event at 2pm.

Pandelela won silver in the discipline in Brazil, with then partner Cheong Jun Hoong.

National coach Li Rui is already expecting them to peak in Japan.

China remain favourites but the national pair certainly have what it takes to push them to the limit, as they did in Gwangju.

However, they will have to really up their game and be at their best if they hope for a top three finish.

They failed to impress at the Diving World Cup in May, scoring only 288.36 points to finish fourth in the synchro event.

But a better showing and some luck could see them come out tops this time around.
