PETALING JAYA:
Mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying crashed out of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after a humiliating 12-21, 15-21 Group D defeat to Germany’s Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Hertrich at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza today.

Their error-filled performance gifted the world No 15 Germans easy points to wrap up proceedings in just 41 minutes.

It is the national pair’s first loss to the Europeans.

The 2016 Rio Olympic Games silver medallists are now out of the running for the quarterfinals after also losing their first match to Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet yesterday.

Their next match against world No 2 duo Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping of China tomorrow is merely a formality as only the top two pairs in each group will advance to the next round.
