In a statement issued by his Supermotoland Husqvarna Junior Talent Team, Khairulamirin was rushed to the nearest hospital where a series of emergency procedures were undertaken, including a surgery to stop the internal bleeding.
The 19-year-old, who is well known as Rin among riders in the Spanish Supermoto, is now in stable condition following the surgery but is expected to be out of action for several months.
“Rin has received the best medical care in Spain and is now in a stable but serious condition as he awaits further surgery scheduled for Monday to repair the broken pelvis,” the statement said.
The injury is a massive blow to Khairulamirin, who will now miss the first round of the S4 European Supermoto Championships scheduled for this month.
“Rin is in good spirits despite his injuries and is focusing on his recovery and aiming to try and be fit to compete in the final round of the S4 European Supermoto Championships to be held in Italy in October,” the statement said.
The crash happened when Khairulamirin lost control of the bike, high-sided and became entangled with the bike, which resulted in the bike coming back down onto him.
In a separate statement, Khairulamirin’s father confirmed the Malaysian embassy in Madrid as well as the Supermotoland Husqvarna Junior Talent Team manager had contacted his family, expressing their willingness to provide assistance and support for the rider.
Khairulamirin created history by becoming the first Malaysian to compete in the European S4 Supermoto Championships.
