CLARK:
Athletics coach Manshahar Jalil claims national 110m hurdles champion Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian was robbed of gold medal by the SEA Games technical division last night.

Defending gold medallist Rayzam and the hosts’ naturalised athlete Clinton Kingsley Bautista recorded the same time (13.97s) but the Filipino was declared winner based on photo finish.

Manshahar accused the technical division of making the call only based on the right corner view although world body IAAF rules require evaluations from both sides.

Malaysian representatives were also not allowed to view the recording of the race.

“The process had been made in accordance with the stipulated procedure to show we have the right to win gold,” said Manshahar.

“All the protests have been made within the stipulated time. However, the process did not take place as it should have under competition regulations.

“So we’ve been deprived of a gold medal.”

Squad manager Sallehudin Satar said the matter would be extended to the SEA Games Federation.

“I expect the case to be taken to a higher level, and as a reference at Asean level,” he said.
