KUALA LUMPUR:
Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) defender Aidil Zafuan Radzak has been recalled to beef up the national squad ahead of their World Cup 2022/Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers game against Vietnam next month.

Aidil, 32, who won six consecutive Super League titles with JDT since 2014, was among the key figures as Harimau Malaya emerged 2018 AFF Cup runners-up.

He has been sidelined by coach Tan Cheng Hoe since the Airmarine Cup in March.

The defender, twice Malaysia Cup winner with Negri Sembilan (2009, 2011), was not listed in the first two qualifying matches against Indonesia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) early this month.

Aidil is vastly experienced at international level with 82 caps to his name.

The centreback combo of Shahrul Saad and Adam Nor Azlin was not convincing against Indonesia and the UAE, conceding four times.

Cheng Hoe also named Selangor midfielder Abdul Halim Saari, 24, in the list of 25 players for centralised training starting next Monday, said FA of Malaysia in a statement today.

Felda United winger Hadin Azman is the only player dropped by Cheng Hoe.

Five days before the match against world No 99 Vietnam at the My Dinh National Stadium on Oct 10, the national squad will have a warmup match against Sri Lanka at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

Malaysia, who moved up a place to 158th in the Fifa rankings last month, will also travel to Hong Kong for another friendly on Oct 15.

Malaysia have three points and sit third behind Thailand (four points) and UAE (three points) in Group G after a 3-2 win in Indonesia before losing 2-1 to UAE at home.
