KUALA LUMPUR: National women’s doubles pair Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean progressed into the third round of the BWF World Championships at the St Jakobshalle Indoor Arena in Basel, Switzerland yesterday.
The world No 15 ranked pair were stretched to the limit by their Taiwan opponents Hsu Ya Ching-Hu Ling Fang before claiming a 21-15, 13-21, 21-11 win in a 63-minute encounter.
Mei Kuan-Meng Yean will be facing a tougher hurdle in the third round when they face third-seeded Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi of Japan.
Mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing pulled off a straight sets win against England’s Ben Lane-Jessica Pugh 21-19, 21-19 to qualify for the third round.
The world No 14 pair face off against Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai who are currently world No 4.
The Thai pair, seeded fourth, took only 28 minutes to outclass Rodion Alimov-Alina Davletova of Russia with a 21-12, 21-9 victory.
