HUNGARY:
Lewis Hamilton denied pole-sitter Max Verstappen to win a gripping Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday and extend his lead in the Formula One drivers’ championship.

Verstappen led until the end of lap 66 of 70 when Hamilton took the lead helped by a brilliant pit strategy by his Mercedes team, which helped the Briton to his 81st Grand Prix triumph.

Verstappen put up a heroic bid to translate his first-ever pole into an eighth win.

But with his tyres “dead” as he told his Red Bull team on the radio and Hamilton on a fresh set having pitted for a second time the Dutch tyro could offer no resistance as the defending world champion surged past with four laps remaining.

This was Hamilton’s seventh win in Hungary.

In third came Sebastian Vettel for Ferrari with his teammate Charles Leclerc in fourth.
