“His contract with Tech3 has ended, but he has other offers and just needs time to make his choice,” Razlan told Bernama, adding that he met Hafizh on Wednesday after Red Bull KTM Tech3 announced that South Africa’s Brad Binder will take up his seat with the French team.
“There are not many places in MotoGP. His chances are slim. Even the Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team (SRT) hasn’t any place left, with contracts till 2020 already signed with racers,” said Razlan, who is also the Petronas Yamaha SRT principal.
Speculation about Hafizh’s future started when his rookie team-mate at Tech3, Miguel Oliveira, signed a new contract but no offer was made to the 25-year-old Selangorian.
This follows his inconsistent performances this season which pales in comparison to his outstanding debut season where he challenged for the Rookie of the Year title, losing out to Franco Morbidelli by four points.
Hafizh has picked up just three points from nine races so far this season.
Tech3’s change of manufacturers from Yamaha to KTM has also played a part in the former Moto2 rider’s form with Hafizh struggling to adjust to the new machinery.
Razlan said SIC will assist Hafizh if he wants to continue his career, whether it be in MotoGP or Moto2.
“I want motorsports fans to be patient and wait for Hafizh to make a decision … give him time. Also, it is the holiday period, so many riders will be moving (to teams) here and there.
