BERLIN:
Captain Marco Reus scored twice as Borussia Dortmund crushed promoted Nürnberg 7-0 on Wednesday to move into second place in the Bundesliga, two points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

The hosts were just too good for Nürnberg, who have not won at Dortmund since 1990, and earned their second-largest Bundesliga win ever.

Jacob Bruun Larsen chipped the Nuremberg keeper to open the scoring after a sensational assist from 20-year-old American Christian Pulisic, and Reus doubled the lead in the 32nd minute of a one-sided game.

Germany winger Reus then grabbed his second in the second half after teenager Achraf Hakimi had also found the net.

The hosts scored three more times in the last 16 minutes through Manuel Akanji, 18-year-old Jadon Sancho, and Julian Weigl, to lift them to 11 points closing the gap on Bayern who drew 1-1 against Augsburg on Tuesday.

“We started really well and got the first goal but we wanted to keep attacking,” said Dortmund coach Lucien Favre. “It really is fun working with this team.”

“We have a very young team and these players will need to keep working,” said the Swiss, who is in his first season at Dortmund.

Germany international Kevin Volland scored twice to steer Bayer Leverkusen to a 2-1 victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf. Leverkusen have now won their last two matches after losing their first three in a row and are in 11th place.

Borussia Mönchengladbach are fourth on 10 points after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 while RB Leipzig climbed to eight points with their 2-0 win over VfB Stuttgart, who have yet to win this season.
