SÃO PAULO: Internacional missed a chance to go top of Brazil’s Série A on Sunday when they could only draw 1-1 at Corinthians.

The Porto Alegre side, who began the day two points behind league leaders São Paulo, went ahead a minute before halftime when Leandro Damião sidefooted home a shot at the far post.

The former Brazil centre-forward looked offside, but Internacional were incapable of capitalising on their luck and Douglas nodded home an equaliser from a metre out after a header came off the bar five minutes into the second half.

The result means Internacional ended the day a point behind São Paulo in second place in the league table, while Corinthians are in seventh, 17 off the lead.
