SÃO PAULO: The Copa América final in Brazil next year will be held at the Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro while the opening match will take place at the Morumbi in São Paulo, organisers said on Tuesday.

The two semifinals will be staged at the Arena do Grêmio in Porto Alegre and the Mineirão in Belo Horizonte, the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) added.

The other two stadiums confirmed to host games are the Fonte Nova in Salvador and Palmeiras’ ground, the Allianz Parque.

The choice of the six stadiums means only three of the 12 arenas built or renovated at huge cost for the 2014 World Cup will be used in the world’s oldest international tournament.

The Copa América, the first to be held in Brazil since 1989, will run from June 14 to July 7 and feature all 10 CONMEBOL teams as well as invited guests Qatar and Japan.
