SÃO PAULO: A second-half goal from Deyverson gave Palmeiras a 1-0 win over Corinthians on Sunday and bragging rights in the Paulista Derby.
After a poor first half in which neither team created many chances, Deyverson side-footed home a low cross from Marcos Rocha after 56 minutes.
The goal lifted the home side and Dudu almost made it 2-0, but his powerful shot thundered off the bar.
Palmeiras remained third in the Serie A table, three points off the lead, while Corinthians, playing for the first time under new coach Jair Ventura, son of former Brazil player Jairzinho, dropped to ninth.
Internacional, based in Porto Alegre, returned to the top of the table after beating city rivals Gremio 1-0 at home.
