Malaysia fail to defend Asian netball championship title

Malaysia will meet Hong Kong, which lost to Sri Lanka, for third place.

SINGAPORE:
Defending champions Malaysia failed to sail through to the final after losing to hosts Singapore at the Asian Netball Championship here.

In the semi-finals and playoffs at the OCBC Arena here today, Singapore won 51-43 over Malaysia to meet Sri Lanka in the final on Sunday.

Malaysia was beaten by Singapore for the second time, the first time in the group stage on Thursday.

Malaysia will be up against Hong Kong for third place after the latter lost to Sri Lanka 46-55 in the other semi-final tie.

The championship title was the available ticket to the Asia Qualifiers for the 2019 World Cup in Liverpool.
