ST LOUIS:
Britain’s Matt Wallace fired the first hole-in-one of the 100th PGA Championship on Saturday, using a 5-iron for an ace at the 232-yard, par-3 16th hole.

The 28-year-old Englishman lifted himself to two-under par for the third round at Bellerive Country Club and into a share of 20th at five-under par for the event, eight shots behind leader Brooks Koepka.

Wallace blasted the ball into the air and watched as it bounced twice then rolled only a few more feet into the cup.

Wallace jumped into the air in excitement and pumped his right fist with delight as he ran around the tee box area.

When he reached the green, Wallace pulled the ball from the cup and hurled it into the crowd.

Wallace has three career European Tour triumphs, last year’s Portugal Open and this year’s Hero Indian Open and BMW International Open.

He beat Andrew Johnston on the first playoff hole for the victory in India and edged Thorbjorn Olesen, Martin Kaymer and Mikko Korhonen by a stroke to win the BMW International.
