
In the women’s semifinals held at the National Squash Centre, Bukit Jalil, Wee Wern easily whipped the current national number two, Sivasangari 11-6, 11-8, 11-9 in 33 minutes to be back in the final of Professional Squash Association (PSA) tournament after 20 months due to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Wee Wern said everything was according to her plan and the thing became just what she wanted as well as to actually get back to play in competitive games.
“Like I said, everybody wants to win and it’s hard to predict what will happen in the court…but this is the result that I had hoped for.
“I’m glad that after a long break due to my injury, there was some improvement like today’s match. I just need to keep playing matches and get more competitive games to try to get back my form,” said the former world number five.
Waiting for her in the final match tomorrow would be the Japanese player, Satomi Watanabe who edged first seeded Egyptian Omneya Abdel Kawy 11-4 11-5, 11-6 in just 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, in the men’s category, first seeded from Hong Kong Leo Au was eliminated by Qatari, Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi 8-11, 11-2, 7-11, 11-9, 11-9 in one hour and 27 minutes.
Abdulla will face the winner between second-seeded Tsz Fung Yip of Hong Kong and Lucas Serme of France in the finals tomorrow.
